Sohaib Habibi asked 5 years agois it permissible according to the madhab to use tambourine in any event, or in general, if not, then which instruments are permissible, for both men and women. (Please provide evidence).

The Duff is the only permissible instrument according to the madhhab, for both men and women. Some Hanbalis allowed it only for women, but the position of the school seems to allow it for both as Imam Buhuti said. And this is the practice of most Muslims today.
Other instruments, such as the piano or guitar are not permitted, because the only exception found in the Sunnah is for the Duff. Other instruments remain impermissible as per the general rule. This is the view of the madhhab, and there is some scholarly difference on the scope for other instruments at weddings and other occasions generally speaking.
