Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuhu,
I have read that there is an obligation to pray the 5 fard prayers in congregation if there are no excuses. My questions related to this are
1) What are the excuses? Does a far distance to the next mosque count as an excuse?
2) What if someone prays individually instead of in congregation, even if he has no excuse? Will his individual prayer be still valid?

1. We will cover the excuses in the chapter of congregational prayer inshallah. In some cases distance counts yes.
2. Yes the prayer is valid, but the man is sinful for doing that without an excuse according to the madhhab.
