Salam alaikum,
I have read that in Hanbali fiqh there is an opinion that a traveler is entitled to shorten and join his prayers for more than 4 days just because he is outside of hometown and has the intention to come back home, no matter how long it will last. It sounded a bit odd to me, because I thought according to Hanbali you can only shorten and join prayers if you have the intention to stay for 4 days or less.
Also I have read that the journey does not have to be 81 km. It suffices that one makes a trip that is considered journey by urf. For example going to work even more than 81 km is may be not considered a journey according to urf but a 5 km trip to the zoo with ones Family and travelling fare may be is. I don´t want to take the easiest opinion, but I just want to know if this is a reliable opionion in the madhab. And could one act upon it if there is hardship?
2. What is the opinion of the madhab on wiping over normal Cotton socks when making Wudu? Is there an opinion that it is permissible? There are People who told that it is also allowed to wipe over all Kind of shoes and that one dosn´t lose ones Wudu if one puts them out after making Wudu? Are those Actions valid or should one repeat those prayers with such a Wudu?

Alhamdulillah,
The madhhab allows shortening for the one who is a traveller for up to four days. Anyone who plans to remain for longer than this takes the ruling of a resident. The minimum distance of travel is 138km according to the official position, although the fatwa of many Hanbalis today is that it is 80km.
Any sock can be wiped on, as per the madhhab, so long as it covers the whole foot up to the ankle and does not show any of the skin underneath.
And success is from Allah
