as salaamu alaykum, I was wondering if there was any other ruling on board games other than haraam?

Many board games include dice to see how many spaces a player can move etc. Recently my family and I have begun to play board games and card games together and its been fun and brought us all closer together. We have not missed any prayers because of it and havent done it to excess. I have heard some say that it is makrooh and others have said its haraam. We never gamble, its just a family thing that we engage in every now and then that doesnt interfere with prayer or reading quraan. Jazaak Allaah khayr.
