Al-Marrūdhi (r) said about Imām Ahmad (h):
❝Abū ‘Abdillāh would never make grammatical errors in his speech.❞
Those who attended his trial were also amazed by this, that there wasn’t a single solecism, not even in one word, despite the dreadful nature of the environment he was in and the severity of the punishment and fear.
Ibn Abi-l Hassān al-Warrāq (r) said to al-Marrūdhi:
❝When Abū ‘Abdillah was in prison he asked me to bring him Hamza’s (al-Kūfi) book on language, so I passed it to him and he had a look at it before he was taken to be trialed.❞
