He is Abu Khalid Waleed ibn Edrees ibn Abd Al-Azeez Al-Meneese
The Sheikh was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1386 hijri. He grew up there in a righteous family that encouraged him to seek knowledge. The sheikh began seeking knowledge at the feet of the scholars of Alexandria at the age of eleven years old, memorizing the Qur’an at the age of fourteen. From the teachers he studied with at a young age is Sheikh Abd Al-Azeez al-Burmawy, completing the texts “Sharh of Ibn Aqeel of the Alfiyyah of Ibn Malik”, and “Nayl al-Awtar.” He also studied for ten years with Sheikh al-Said Ibn Sa’d ad-Deen al-Ghubashy, completing with him various texts in the sciences of Qur’an, hadith, aqeedah, fiqh, seerah, and other texts of sacred knowledge.
Sheikh Waleed Al-Meneese then traveled to Saudia Arabia for eight years, where he studied under the leading scholars of our time. From them is His Excellence Sheikh Abdul-Azeez Ibn Baz, His Excellence Sheikh Abdur-Razaq al-Afifi, His Excellence Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, His Excellence Sheikh Ibn Ghudayan, His Excellence Sheikh Abd Allah Ibn Qu’ood, His Excellence Sheikh Ibn Jibreen, His Excellence Sheikh Al-Fawzan, His Excellence Sheikh Ismaeel al-Ansary, His Excellence Sheikh Salih Aal al-Sheikh, and many others. Sheikh Waleed has received ijazah in the various Islamic sciences from over one hundred (100) scholars of Islam.
He is also one of the leading experts in the modes of Qur’anic recitation, having the highest chain of recitation in the world. He has mastered the fourteen modes of recitation and received ijazah from the world’s leading Qur’an scholars.
The Sheikh received his Bachelor of Arts degree in the Arabic language from Alexandria University in Egypt, his Master of Arts degree in Islamic jurisprudence from the American Open University with the highest honors (summa cum laude), and his PhD in Islamic jurisprudence from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
The Sheikh is a senior member of the Permanent Fatwa Committee of the Assembly of Muslim Jurists in America (AMJA), president of the Islamic University of Minnesota, member of the Educational Committee at the American Open University, imam and president of the board of trustees of Dar-al-Farooq Islamic Center, and chairman of the North American Imams Federation (NAIF).
